Today we took my mom to the airport so she could head home :(. She was a LIFE SAVER!!!! My kids love her, and she is so ridiculously good with little kids that I don't even have to worry for one second about my kids missing me when she is here. She made us a lot of fun little goodies while she was here including an ADORABLE hat for Alivia, a head band for Lucy, and two neck pillows for Lucy and Jack. She is so creative, I wish I could get those juices flowing through me a little more freely.
So last night Shawn's brothers Chris and Dave (and Adriana and the kids) came down to see Alivia. We knew we were going to be taking my mom to the airport today, so Dave and Adriana took Lucy up to their house last night for a sleep over with her cousin Matthew. We picked her up on the way to the airport to say by to Grandma. Apparently the excitement of a sleep over kept Lucy and Matthew up a little late talking last night, and then Lucy woke up in the night "sick" and spent several minutes with her Aunt Adriana in the bathroom "throwing up". Really she just fake coughed violently into the toilet for as long as she could. Then Adriana spread Vicks vapor rub on her tummy because it was "magic medicine", and she was fine. Clearly Lucy missed mom and dad.
After we dropped off my mom, we headed to Bob and Pam's, and that is when my kids decided they were going to unravel themselves. Lucy was suddenly crying at the bat of a butterfly wing, and Jack was just being Jack and feeding off her sensitivity. Then 4:30 hit and Jack turns into a monster like clock work. So things were going down hill fast. Nothing major happened, the two older kids were just wrecks. Alivia was peacefully sleeping. So at about 6:30 we decided to pack the kids up and head home, and this is how that worked out for us.
I had Shawn change Alivia's diaper while I finished eating dinner. Then I started feeding Alivia while Shawn rounded up all our stuff and got it out to the car. Then he changed Jack and we were ready to go, just waiting for Alivia to finish eating. That's when I noticed she pooped again. So as soon as I finished feeding her, I started changing her diaper. I got one diaper off, and got her all cleaned up. Then, as I opened the next diaper and reached for her legs, she started peeing. The pee quickly spread all over the mat that she was laying on and her shirt quickly soaked it up. Well, I thought I was all prepared for a few hours away from the house with a new born, but I'm a little rusty. I had forgotten a change of clothes. So at this point I'm realizing Alivia will be riding home in pants and boots, and wrapped in blankets. It could be worse.
So I take her shirt off and use several paper towels (which Lucy brought me) to mop up the puddle so I can get the diaper on Alivia. As soon as I start mopping up the puddle, what does she do? She starts pooping! So now I need more paper towels which I quickly send Lucy to fetch. Just when I get it all cleaned up, she poops again. It was just getting ridiculous, but I was so glad that I had her on a changing pad so that none of this mess got on Bob and Pam's carpet. So now I'm having Shawn get me a warm washcloth to give Alivia a quick towel bath because trust me, she needed it at this point from all the filth she'd put herself in. Then I finally got her diaper on and as clothed as means would allow.
So I send Shawn to wash this changing pad off, and I pick up Alivia and put her in her car seat, the one that is covered in a brand new cover that I spent several hours working on the last few weeks, and I love it. As soon as I get the straps pulled over her shoulders Alivia spits up, and spits up A LOT! Now it doesn't compare to Jack's puking a few weeks ago, but it probably was to scale for her size. Her entire arm and shoulder were coated, and she had created a pretty big puddle in the bottom of her car seat. So I start unbuckling her and pulling her out when the second wave hits. When I pulled her out of her seat there was 1/2 a cup of spit up in a puddle in the bottom of her seat. In come more paper towels, and cue second towel bath for Alivia.
After cleaning up the third mess, I finally got Alivia into her semi saturated car seat and buckled her in. Then we spent the next 10 minutes getting kids in the car and fighting Lucy's seat belt. We finally pulled out at 7:30 with an emotionally exhausted 4 year old, a done 2 year old, and an empty 4 day old baby. Remember how we were ready to leave at 6:30? I guess our kids had other plans, mainly Alivia. All Shawn and I could say on the way home was "Welcome to the life of 3 kids, we're on our own."

HAHAHA!!! Don't get me wrong, I do feel bad for you, but that is quite hilarious!!! Aliva is definitely not going to let the 2 older ones outshine her...oh no no no...she's in the game to stay! Good luck. Love ya!
Chantell - first congratulations on your beautiful daughter. Second, thanks for the good laugh, Collin is wondering - what's up with that baby! He's never had to deal with a younger sibling. Jason just laughed and laughed and said "Oh Chantell". Ah, the memories.
