Lucy and Jack

Lucy has taken to the role of big sister amazingly. She loves to kiss Jack, and she is always talking to him in the sweetest little voice. She says things like "It's ok Baby Jack", or "Don't cry Baby Jack!" She is so soft with him and will just come up and gently pat his head or kiss him. Totally melts my heart. She's also taken on some new chores around the house. Lucy has been helping me unload the dishwasher for a few months now (which was really nice when I was really big and didn't want to bend down to get things, and we've only lost one bowl), but last night she took on the challenge of setting the table all by herself. She did really good for a two year old. And after dinner she helped clear and put things away. I think she feels more important now that we have little Jack to take care of, and she wants to be right in there helping.

Such a sweet big sister!

Lucy's learning a few new tricks on the side.
Think she might be ready for a gymnastics class this summer?

Jack's Three Day Check Up

We took Jack in for a 3 day check up, and the Doctors were all very surprised to see that he had already gained an ounce since he was born weighing in at 8 pounds 3.5 ounces. What can I say, he likes to eat. I love his chubby little face, he totally looks like a little bruiser!

Jack's First Week

Jack's kind of had a rough one as far as getting his nights a days figured out. That means that we have had a rough week too. So I'm mean and don't let Jack sleep much during the day, but he has to sleep a little, and lucky for us that getting him to sleep is easy, so we can sleep whenever we are ready to, and if we are really lucky, Lucy is asleep too. That hasn't happened yet.

Steff was one of those people how got the cold bug, so she couldn't come visit Jack in the hospital. She waited as long as she could, but still wasn't 100% better when she decided she couldn't wait any longer, so she went to a doctor's office and picked up some surgical masks so that she could come visit. As you can see, she was pretty excited.

So my mom was here this whole week, but she did a really good job at dodging the camera. Those of you who know her well are not surprised. But she was here a full week and we don't have one picture of her. I do think we got her on video camera, but she totally worked her magic as far a pictures go. But I do want her to know that she was a life saver this week. She got here just in the nik of time, since I went into labor about 8 hours after her arivial. Today is my first full day without her or Shawn, and I'm missing her. Lucy had a blast with her too, and won't let me take down the bed my mom slept on in her room because she thinks that if we leave it up long enough "Grandma Slu Slu" will come back. My mom made Lucy a little "Daddy Dolphine" that I won't even try to explain, but Lucy is obsessed with it. We had a fun week, and it was so good to see my mom. Thanks again mom, you are awesome!

Coming Home!!!

Kind of funny to think that we came home on Tuesday the 17th, just one day after Jack was born technically. But we had stayed as long as we needed to.

Our first picture as a family of four!

What a relief! Another baby who loves the car seat! And better yet, Jack is totally a pacifier baby, we learned on our last day in the hospital when the photographer suggested it to try and get a smile.

More Hospital Pictures

So being that I was still in the hospital when I posted last, and I was even more tired than I am now, I realized looking back that I probably put the worst pictures of Jack up that we have. None of them show his face at all, or the lighting is terrible. So here is a better picture of him right after he was born.

For those of you out there who think you know someone who sleeps weird, check this out. Shawn always sleeps like this. He was out cold too. Usually all you have to do is make the slightest noise and he realizes what he is doing and drops that foot so fast, hoping you didn't see it (right Pam?) But when I found him like this at the hospital, I got up, went to the bathroom, and did something with the baby, and he slept through it all. I even took the picture with a flash and he didn't realize it. So now I get to share this special moment with you all.

Here are a few pictures of visiters we had at the hospital. Unfortunately there was a cold bug working it's way through the family, hence the face masks on Bob and Adriana. Isn't little Matthew so cute with this baby? It was also a bonus to have Jason and Katie out this weekend to meet Jack. Such a fun week.

Jack Michael Hammond

So this is Jack. One look at him and you can see he is all little boy, there is nothing girly about him. Jack is 12 hours old, and I can already tell you that he likes to do things his way. We learned that early this morning when Jack decided to surprise us and come just a few hours earlier than our scheduled induction.
So yesterday Shawn and I were up in Highlands Ranch and drove to the Denver Airport at about 3:00 to pick up my mom. After she got there, we drove back to Shawn's parents house for dinner, and then we headed back to Colorado Springs to get everything ready. But 10:30 we were in bed since I was scheduled to go to the hospital at 5:30 the next morning. I listened to Shawn fall asleep in like 15 minutes, and I laid there for a good hour trying to calm my mind down enough to sleep. I was finally starting to relax when I felt a sharp pain, and I knew it was a contraction, but it was stronger than any contraction I had ever felt with Lucy. I figured it was a fluke, so when it passed I tried to fall back asleep. After a few more of those, I started to glance at the clock, and it was 11:40.
By 12:15 I was having enough of them and they hurt so bad that I decided if I were still having them by 1:00, then I'd wake Shawn up. That's when I started shaking uncontrollably with each one, and started to think that they were a lot closer together. By 12:22 I woke Shawn up and said "I think I'm in labor." So he timed a few contractions and we noticed they were like a minute and a half long, and a minute apart, and absolutely unbearable! After timing two I said, I need to go in now.
When we got to the hospital they checked me and I was a 5, then they admitted me and checked me a half hour later, and I was an 8. Just before they checked me they gave me the epidural, thank goodness! Then a half hour later they checked me and I was a 10, and my water broke. So it was time to push. After a few pushes, we had a baby boy! I had been told by my doctor two weeks ago that Jack, like Lucy was posterior, and there was a chance of a c-section, so I was terrified of that. So for everything to go that quick and that smooth, was a dream!!
Jack weighed 8 pounds 2.5 ounces (btw, I guessed he'd weigh 8 pounds 3 ounces, go me!!!) he is 22 inches long, and born at 2:55 am after just over 3 hours of labor from start to finish! I was crazy!! Shawn and I could not believe how fast it was going the whole time. We don't have many great pictures from the beginning because we were kind of in shock and before we knew it he was here!
